Museum day

The day started off the same, swiss pancakes with lingonberry and raspberry, eggs and bacon, liverwurst, daikon, etc, etc, etc…..what an ordeal….luckily I will have to face that gauntlet only one more time as we leave for Gothenburg tomorrow, where Kathi will pick up her new Volvo.

Stockholm is awash with tall blondes.

The day started at -3c and finally warmed up to 0c. Additionally no sun as yet.

Our first trip was on the bus..outside the city, colder, more snow, like going to the country in Dr Zhivago

Our destination is the Vasa Museet – it houses an entire war ship ... the ship in front is a model with real ship in the background

that sank 1n 1648 just 20 minutes after being launched in Stockholm. It was by chance found in about 1960 and raised and is mostly intact. It was a terrific museum and well worth it. Try http://www.vasamuseet.se/Vasamuseet/Om/Museet.aspx?lang=en

The second stop was Skansen – a living museum of historical life in Sweden, think Williamsburg but for the Swedes and with an awesome Nordic animal presentation and we were able to trail the keepers as they did a 2pm feeding – wolves, otters, seals, wolverine, moose,
reindeer, bison, pigs, lynx (the bears were asleep for the winter) and sheep, etc. If curious try http://www.skansen.se/pages/?ID=221

While at Skansen I found myself walking around in a bit of a snow flurry – pretty neat. It was surprising to see the number of mothers with their prams and little children all bundled and with totally rosy cheeks. One group of the 3 moms, 3 prams, and about 3 walking kids, even had a picnic, after brushing snow from the table!

All in all it was a great day and with that I shall sign off. BTW my computer is reading HST, so all the dates and etc will be different, about 12 or so hours ahead of Hawaii, 10 or so hours ahead of CA, etc….
