Berlin Friday

Friday Feb 24

Today we were up early and off the Reichstag. We took our U and S Bahns and were there in time so we didn’t have to wait too long. There is thorough security, thru 2 stages including 2 way mirror elevator. One can walk to the top of the dome and get a glorious view of Berlin – especially today, all blue skies, clear and crisp (and frigid). The one surprising site was the nuke station more or less on the edge of Berlin. After the walk around in the Reichstag we had a coffee in a location up near the top where one could just sit and admire the Berlin vista. From there it was a short 12 blocks so that we could clear thru Checkpoint Charlie and then (nah nah) back to the Ku’damm.

Turns out there were many stalls set up near the UBahn Station and the most popular food stall was noodles – Chinese, Japanese, Thai. Lots of clothes, etc. I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the store some say is bigger and better than Harrods … who cares, they are both super fun to just wander around. KuDeWe does have, tho, a $130,000 stereo – don’t remember anything like that anywhere. In front of the KuDeWe is also the Knot - east and west apart but together

and, so you think it's hard to find parking in Berlin? Not if you have a Smart Car.

I was in the store (and the neighboring blocks of stores) from about 2 to 6 when I met my sister and we came back for dinner….schnitzel, red beets, sauerkraut, fried potato and coke lite.

Never in my life have I seen so many fur coats on women, and even men. Except maybe the zoo. And some are really beautiful – I’m assuming they are not rabbit.

Today was blue skies all day which was great because it actually warmed up just a little as well….except for times when the wind would blow it was a great day.
